OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL HIGH SCHOOL, SION, MUMBAI 400 022.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

1.      Yet again another academic year passes, taking us along as winners or leaving us behind as losers. Have we won or have we lost? Learn from the past to improve the future . “ Life is a grindstone whether it grinds you down or polishes you up, it depends on what you are made of.” Gratitude is due in abundant measure to each of you staff members for your unflinching support and co-ordinated effort in giving your best ,even when the going is tough. I also take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to each and every student and parent for working towards realizing the goal.

2.      Success can be achieved by making education more meaningful than by encouraging to be conventional. The school has created yet another niche for itself by providing a platform in implementation of new ideas. For more details refer Page. no. 3

Success is possible only with the full co-operation and team efforts of parents , teachers and all others concerned in the educational field. English being the medium of instruction, we encourage students to speak in English. Strict action will be taken against  those who fail to abide by this rule. Parents must insist on punctuality and regularity in attending school. Students must come to school in their complete school uniform with hair neatly combed. The same to be followed during the test and examination days. No child must get unwanted things to the school as it could lead to suspension or even dismissal. On many occasions parents are seen walking about in the school premises without my permission. No parent has the authority to deal with another student . All disputes are to be brought to my notice only. In the past, parents have assaulted other students themselves or through others. If such things happen the student and the parent concerned will be dealt strictly by me.

3.      The school will remain closed for instruction from 15th April 2008. Results will be declared on 30th April 2008 at 8.00 am for the secondary section and 1.30 pm for the primary section  on the same day. Kindly note that the students are requested to collect the results personally and in complete school uniform. Incase a child is unable to be present on the result day the parent will collect the result by getting a note signed by  me. You may get this note signed Tuesday 29th April, 2008 between 9.00 am to 12.00 noon only. Do not forget to bring along the calendar of your child when you come for such a request.

4.      Promotion of your child is based on as per the revised evaluation scheme issued by the Education Department. There will be no alteration done in the final result that is declared. Hence, please do not approach me with any recommendation in this regards. The school will re-open on 16th June, 2008 at the usual time. Attendance on the re-opening day is compulsory.

5.      In order to maintain uniformity in size and quality, it is recommended that students buy note-books and workbooks provided by the school.

6.      As our school building requires repair on an urgent basis, our resources are not enough to do so. Besides we have expenses over Electricity, water, telephone, printing of question papers,

report cards and other stationary. A brief account of the expenses we incur on electricity is   given below. According to the earlier subsidized tariff we use to pay Rs.3 per unit, but now we are paying Rs.15 per unit. Earlier we paid Rs.70, 000 for 2 months and now for the past 8 months we have been paying Rs.70, 000 per months i.e. (Rs.8, 40, 000 per year). Thus running and managing the school is rather difficult without your support and co-operation. Hence the management and the PTA have decided to have an increase in the contribution which is as follows.

8. KNOWLEDGE CENTRE

We are pleased to inform you that from the next academic year 2008-2009, we shall be including a well planned , syllabus based , supplementary Knowledge based program in our methods of instructions for all the students.

This we feel is essential to help students to complete their projects efficiently :

Why A Knowledge Centre ?

·   As we know students struggle to prepare their projects , parents are ultimately burdened to prepare them . As there is no personal involvement of the students the aim of the project fails.

·   Students using Cyber Café to prepare these projects they are forced to pay more for internet surfing and printouts.

·   Parents unwillingly buy low quality, compiled , readymade projects available in the market at an exhorbitant  prices or prepare the projects themselves.

This program is the solution to all the problems faced by students and especially parents.

Highlights :

o        A new room is specially designed for the Knowledge Centre and  is being equipped with multimedia computers ,sound system, and relevant search engines classwise, subjectwise and chapterwise.

o        In the knowledge Centre lab, children will be regularly given assignments and projects based on the lessons they have currently learnt.

Experience teaches us that if the children seek more information pertaining a topic, it will help them to increase their motivation, develop skills, healthy work habits and improve their productivity in every walk of life.

o        Thus this program encourages the students to actively participate in preparing projects. Stimulates students to research in the subject matter.

o        It also develops reading, researching and planning habit of students.

o        Students learn and enjoy while preparing projects . Students can get all information needed at any point of time. No trouble to parents as students will be equipped to work themselves .

o        The work will be incorporated  within the school time table.

In order to successfully implement our program with the above facility we shall be charging a nominal fee of Rs.25/- per students per month (i.e. Rs.300/p.a)

I conclude ,I humbly expect your support and cooperation in the days to come.GOD BLESS YOU !                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Cordially yours,

                                                                                                                            Principal[Fr. Karlu Dias ]
